Character: Edda Blackbosom

Game: Final Fantasy XIV- Heavensward

Competition: NorWesCon 2018

Awards:  Best Workmanship and 2nd Place Prop Construction

Following Edda’s story in early FFXIV was a fun endeavor, and when she showed up again in Heavensward in her new outfit, I knew I had to make it. It was at the point where I was beginning to experiment with construction techniques, and this one was a fun challenge. Altering patterns, getting a ruffler foot, and learning how to make my first petticoat.

Avere and the scythe were also a challenge as I’m generally not the biggest prop maker. The scythe was made using a shower curtain rod and several foam core boards, and Avere was craft foam and a styrofoam ball. He had velcro on his butt so he could stick to my shoulder and stay there.

Competition info

Edda was my first solo competition piece after my old group broke apart. I attended a fantasy/sci-fi competition and competed with her, quickly finding out that catwalks absolutely terrify me. I did not compete on a catwalk until 2024 and finally conquered that fear.

Regardless, I did walk away with my first craftsmanship awards, and they pushed me to get creative and innovative with my builds and try so many new things.
